Lifestyle and Accommodation Support

We assist people with disabilities to live in their own home and access community life using a range of flexible models of support. People supported may require assistance in some or all aspects of their life depending on the nature of their disability. They may require assistance with personal care, mobility, responding to high medical needs, personal safety and wellbeing, support with communication, support to access community services and/or to participate in general community life.

Hours of support provided to each person may vary from less than 10 hours per week to providing support 24 hours per day, seven days a week. Support hours are allocated according to an assessment of an individuals support needs. We offer flexible support options to meet each person’s needs and lifestyle choices.

Respite Services

UnitingCare Community Disability offer support to the families and carers of people who have a disability living at home. Respite services provide supports that enhance the ability of the family and carer to continue in their role of primary care provider for a person with a disability, and to sustain the total family unit and/or caring relationship. Respite services give families and carers a break from caring by focusing on the specific needs and interests of the person with a disability.

Respite may be provided in the persons own home, or in other venues in the community. This may include:

  • Providing respite services which enable families and carers to take a short-term break.
  • Supporting families to network and form links with other services.
  • Holiday support for individuals and their families.
  • Providing domestic or personal care assistance to allow a family increased opportunities for quality time.
  • Engaging with the person to provide them with social, recreational and developmental opportunities.

Boarding Houses

Resident Support Program
We offer support to people with disabilities who reside in private residential accommodation. People who live in supported accommodation facilities, boarding houses and aged care rental facilities can be supported through the Resident Support Program. Support Workers work with people to develop and maintain skills, make community connections and to gain access to appropriate health care services. Models of support are provided through lifestyle and accommodation support and community access and linking.
