All you need to do is snap a photo of yourself wearing your favourite outfit from Lifeline and upload to the ‘So You Think You Got Style Competition’ page on the Lifeline Shops Facebook page. The person in the photo with the most 'likes' by the end of the competition wins! You had better hurry though – the competition ends on October 21. The winner must verify that their fabulous outfit was purchased at a Lifeline Shop, so be sure to hold onto your receipt! Enter now!

UnitingCare Community has over 130 Lifeline Shops across Queensland, provides cleaning rags for sale to industry and also exports some stock overseas. This smart and streamlined business process ensures the reusable donations we receive have a useful, longer life rather than ending up in landfill.
Proceeds from our shops, rag sales and export trade help fund Lifeline’s 24-Hour 13 11 14 Crisis Counselling Line, face-to-face counselling, financial counselling, community recovery and support programs for children and families. Funds raised in local Lifeline Shops fund local Lifeline services.
By purchasing second hand goods, such as clothing, accessories, books, bric-a-brac, furniture and cleaning rags, you are helping the environment by reducing air, water and land pollution and reducing the need for new natural resources like timber, petroleum and fibres to make new products.
Want to help the environment? There is something you can do. And it’s easy. Shop second hand and throw the environment a lifeline.
In the past three decades, one-third of the planet’s natural resources have been consumed. On what? Making products - the newest electronics, the latest fashions, the fanciest consumables - which will all need to be replaced next year anyway. We are caught in an endless cycle of buying and re-buying items we don’t necessarily need.
As Queenslanders consider climate change to be the most important issue facing Australia – next to the Global Economic Crisis – UnitingCare Community is providing education about the environmental value of buying second-hand goods to highlight new and affordable ways of being environmentally friendly.
With about 130 Lifeline Shops located right across the state, many Queenslanders have the opportunity to enjoy the environmental, financial and social benefits of second hand shopping.
Promote alternative and environmental shopping with our free resources.
Donating your reusable items to second hand charity stores prolongs the life an item as it gives someone else the opportunity to purchase something you no longer want or need.
Donating your reusable items for others to purchase reduces the need for Queenslanders to purchase new, imported goods which slows down the manufacturing of new product thereby reducing the emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, reducing global warming and the effects of climate change. Similarly, prolonging the life of an item also reduces landfill.
It is important to donate correctly. Lifeline encourages donations of reusable items such as clothing, accessories, books, bric a brac and furniture.
Items that cannot be accepted are torn or stained mattresses; broken lounges or broken furniture; ovens, dishwashers, cots or vertical blinds.
To donate small items, place them inside your nearest Lifeline clothing bin. To donate large items, call your local area warehouse to learn the closest drop-off point or to arrange a collection.
Your next donation of clothing, books and non-breakable bric-a-brac items can be made at your local Lifeline Bin or Lifeline Shop. Furniture donations are accepted at all Lifeline Supa Shops.
You can ring your nearest Lifeline warehouse for information on Lifeline Bin locations or to arrange a furniture pick up.
Your donations help fund Lifeline’s 24 Hour 13 11 14 Crisis Counselling Line, face-to-face counselling, financial counselling, community recovery and support programs for children and families.

Want to help the environment? There is something you can do. And it’s easy. Donate to a second hand charity store and throw the environment a lifeline.
You can now volunteer at a second hand charity store with the knowledge that you are helping the global environment as well as your local community.
You can help Lifeline sell more reusable products by volunteering at a Lifeline Shop, at one of our warehouses or at a special event like a Clothing Sale or Bookfest.
Volunteers are vital to the work of the Lifeline Shops and make up the majority of Lifeline’s Business employees. Volunteering is also a great way to meet new people, learn retail skills, put your own skills to use and have fun.
Lifeline encourages young people to consider volunteering at a Lifeline Shop or special event. We recognise that young people have unique needs and expectations and desire variety, challenge, fun and flexibility.
The Lifeline Shops in Queensland generally require a regular volunteer commitment of at least 4 hours per fortnight.
Special events such as Bookfests and Clothing Sales are held once or twice a year in many regions, offering flexible volunteering opportunities. These events always need volunteers to help set up and pack down and offer jobs such as cashier, pricer and sorter.
Want to help the environment? There is something you can do. And it’s easy. Volunteer at a second hand charity store and throw the environment a lifeline.
For more information on volunteering, contact email volunteer [at] lccq [dot] org [dot] au (UnitingCare Community's Volunteer Management team).
UnitingCare Community is often looking for passionate people with retail experience who want to make a difference.
Our Shop Managers are responsible for the management and operations of the retail outlet and its team to achieve all business objectives and key outcomes.
This includes liaising with customers, managing stock and overseeing a small team including volunteers. Those working for Lifeline are able to demonstrate strong leadership skills, provide excellent customer service and have a genuine desire to succeed.
There may also be the opportunity for paid positions within our warehouses. Although many volunteers help sort, deliver, and display our stock, we do require staff to oversee and coordinate these tasks.
UnitingCare Community exists to strengthen the lives of individuals, families and communities through wide-ranging community services that deliver enhanced access, efficiency and outcomes to the people who matter the most - its clients. The funds raised from the organisation’s Business Division are used to help these clients. Lifeline’s Business Division in Queensland offers a challenging, rewarding environment in which to work.
As we’re part of the UnitingCare Queensland group of community service organisations, we have a strong values base namely: compassion, justice, respect, working together and leading through learning.
UnitingCare Community presently employs nearly 2,400 staff, is aided by more than 4,500 volunteers, runs 160 different programs and is located at almost 200 sites.
If you’re interested in working at a Lifeline Shop, at our warehouse or as a truck driver, you can visit our Job Vacancies page or send your expression of interest via email to our recruitment [at] lccq [dot] org [dot] au (Human Resources Department).
Lifeline Community Care offers generous salary packaging to maximise your take home pay.
Lifeline endeavours to make the most of every item that is donated to us. Not all items donated to Lifeline are suitable for sale in our retail shops, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t used or appreciated.
Lifeline Rags is our business operation that takes unsellable material donations such as clothing, linen, and drapery and turns them into cleaning rags. These rags are then sold to a variety of customers, particularly the trade and industrial sectors who use our product as an integral part of their day to day business activities.
Lifeline continues to have a very special relationship with our rags customers. Our business relationships are based on values of customer service generated through mutual respect, pride and warmth. Our Rags customers continue to be very loyal to Lifeline and the work that we do in the community, and they understand that by supporting our Rags business they are not only purchasing quality product but they are also supporting Lifeline and the services we provide for their local communities.
To view a list of types of rags we sell please click here. Please note that products available are subject to each region. Please contact your local Rags office to find out more information about products available.

Lifeline's educational resources are ideal for community groups, businesses, schools and universities that are keen to inform on and promote practical ways to be environmentally friendly.
Please feel free to print (on recycled paper!) our fact sheets and posters to distribute in your workplace, community noticeboard or school.
You may wish to share our Community Services Announcements – available in print, audio and audio-visual formats – via a newsletter, email bulletin, blog or Facebook page! Why not contact your local newspaper, radio or TV station and suggest they run them as well?

Throw the Environment a Lifeline is a documentary created by UnitingCare Community and MMMEDIA to educate on the environmental, financial and social value of buying second hand goods from charity shops.
Hosting a screening of the 20 minute documentary provides a forum for discussing the value-shift required in our community to help tackle climate change.
Although you can view the full 20 minute documentary online, presenting it on the big screen to a group of people and hosting a discussion is the best way to enjoy the educational opportunity and encourage conversation and action.
The full-length documentary DVD is available to borrow or purchase. There are three options:
1. Free loan
2. $15 for DVD & postage
3. $20 for DVD & postage & donation
To order, call 3250 1973 or e-mail environment [at] lccq [dot] org [dot] au
