EVEN though we are positioned well and truly in the computer age, it is comforting to know that books are still valued and welcomed in our society.
Lifeline’s biggest Gold Coast Bookfest is running for four days from June 28 to July 1 at Parklands Showgrounds, Southport and Lifeline’s Gold Coast Business Manager Jim Dale said he does not believe the rise of e-books and kindles has affected the well-loved event.
“Perhaps the hysteria associated with e-books and kindles is not as strong as the nostalgic fun associated with board games, colouring books and the unmistakable smell of a second hand book,” Mr Dale said.
“Gold Coast’s Lifeline Bookfest is a perfect illustration of this,” he said.
Those in the know will no doubt get in quick to take advantage of a wide selection of LPs, CDs, videos, magazines, books, games and puzzles.
“Second-hand books break down age, interest and socio-economic barriers, so we welcome an amazing cross-section of the community to the sale,” he said.
All proceeds from the Lifeline Bookfest go towards Lifeline’s 24 hour 13 11 14 Crisis Support Line Line.
The Bookfest will run from Friday June 28 until Monday July 1 at the Parklands Showgrounds, Southport.
