A fire in the early hours of Saturday April 28 burnt through the back of the Lifeline Margate Supa Shop destroying the roofing, all the electrical wiring and some stock.
The fire started in two industrial bins which spread to the awning and nearby furniture.
Lifeline Business Manager, Roy Frith, said we were lucky the fire was stopped before it did more damage.
“If we had waited another 10 minutes, the whole shop would have burnt down,” Mr Frith said.
“I’m just so grateful to the fire brigade who arrived quickly and controlled the fire before it could do more damage,” he said.
The fire brigade was called by a local security guard who noticed the fire while returning home from his shift.
“At this stage, we can’t say when the store will be able to re-open,” Mr Frith said.
“Although the front of store was saved from the fire, a lot of the building, and our stock, has been smoke damaged,” Mr Frith said.
“We will keep the community informed with updates regarding the re-opening and we hope that will be soon,” he said.
The fire comes almost one month after the Woollongabba fire which destroyed the entire shop.
“After the Woolloongabba fire, we received so much community support through product donations; it was very humbling,” Mr Frith said.
“I regret this has happened again after receiving so much support, and I ask the community for patience while we sort out the building and stock damage and work towards re-opening the store,” he said.
A fire engulfing the Lifeline Wollongabba store in the early hours of Thursday March 29 has destroyed one of Lifeline's biggest and most successful shops in Brisbane.
The Lifeline Woollongabba shop was Lifeline's second furniture store in Brisbane and was opened at the Gibbon Street site 25 years ago.
The fire is a tragedy and we are thankful no one was hurt.
"We do not know what started the fire and will await the results of the police investigation," Brisbane Retail Manager, Roy Frithsaid.
Donations of goods can be made at Lifeline donation bins. For furniture donations, a pick up can be arranged by calling 3632 1010.
"Our thanks and sympathy go out to those community members whose donations - intended to benefit those less fortunate in the community - have now been destroyed," Mr Frith said.
"We are working closely with our staff and volunteers from other Lifeline shops around Brisbane and we are grateful for their loyal support," he said.
