UnitingCare Community's learning and development courses are designed to improve community wellbeing, offer general support and provide life skills training.

About us

UnitingCare Community through both its Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and its training services unit (Both part of UnitingCare Community’s Learning Centre) delivers a wide range of programs and services to both its staff and volunteers, Government Departments, private and publically owned companies and to the general public. These programs and services include:

  • A range of Nationally accredited training (Cert IV to advanced diploma) from the Community Services training package including, certificate IV in disability and certificate IV in child, youth and family intervention.
  • The Financial Literacy Education Skill Set
  • Strength based practice
  • Trauma informed practice and a range of other practice models
  • Leadership and Management skills (from the community sector team leadership skill set)
  • Psychological First Aid
  • Case noting and general document writing skills
  • Working with resilience
  • Peer skills programs for children and young adults
  • Mental health, risk of suicide and depression programs
  • Counselling and communication skills

UnitingCare Community also has a strong program and course development unit, which produces high quality, bespoke training for a range of both internal and external stakeholders across a variety of areas within the general domain of community services. 

Workshop delivery methodologies

All of UnitingCare Community’s courses utilise a variety of delivery approaches to facilitate optimal learning outcomes for all participants. These include;

  • use of PowerPoint presentations
  • video and Audio recordings of simulated calls
  • individual and group reflections on personal experiences
  • group and individual discussions
  • live simulated call interactions
  • facilitated group and individual roleplay’s
  • handouts and notes
  • individual assistance where necessary.

Facilitator qualifications

All of UnitingCare Community’s facilitators of this program possess a current Cert IV TAE Qualification They are all possess qualifications relevant to the areas facilitated such as Diploma of Community Services, Bachelor/Masters/PhD in Psychology, Counselling, Social work, Suicide, Business and Education as well as holding memberships in a range of Professional Associations. 

UnitingCare Community is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and is a member of the Australian Society of Training and Development, the Enterprise RTO Association and the Australian Institute of Training and Development and is actively involved as board members of these associations.

Demonstrated delivery

UnitingCare Community currently delivers all of the training for Lifeline Telephone Crisis Support Workers in Queensland (approximately 325 participants per year) and has provided this training since the inception of the Lifeline Telephone Crisis Support service in Queensland. As an RTO UnitingCare Community also provides training in the Certificate IV in Disability, and the Diploma of Community Services (Financial Counselling) as well as a number of Nationally Accredited Skill Sets.

UnitingCare Community also delivers a wide range of training services and programs, such as, Psychological First Aid, Mental Health and Depression Awareness, Dealing with difficult callers, resilience and self-care, and suicide awareness, assessment and intervention to a number of State Government Departments, including the Department of Communities and SmartService QLD as well as the Motor Trades Association of Australia, Ergon Energy, Law firms, private and public companies, clubs and not for profit organisations.

As part of all training delivered, UnitingCare Community works with the organisations involved to determine the particular learning outcomes, and evaluation methods required and provides reports against these learning outcomes as well as access to participant feedback. In general UnitingCare Community utilises the Five level Philips ROI model of learning evaluation as its main evaluative tool, in order to ensure that not only do participants and their supervisors and managers see the achievement of the learning outcomes, but that the organisation as a whole can determine a real ROI based on the outcomes as well.
